Introducing SkinPen!
We are so excited to finally launch our brand new treatment, SkinPen.
SkinPen provides real lasting results, and is our hero treatment for treating acne scarring, pigmentation and ageing.
SkinPen is a type of Microneedling (also known as Collagen Induction/Stimulation Therapy), that uses a series of fine needles inserted into the skin, hundreds to thousands of times per minute. This triggers the body’s natural wound healing process to remodel the skin, including producing new collagen and elastin. As you age, your skin gets thinner and SkinPen helps to thicken the skin with new collagen and elastin production. A thicker skin will show less fine lines and wrinkles, and healthy new collagen and elastin will give the appearance of younger looking skin.
How does it actually work?
During a SkinPen treatment, we are causing a controlled injury to the area. The area will then go through various phases to repair itself, including producing a robust collagen specifically designed to remodel your skin to a more youthful state. As your skin tissue repairs, it releases the connective tissue associated with scars to help remodel the skin and reduce acne scarring. Studies find an average 400% more collagen found in the skin 6 months after treatment. This is because SkinPen stimulates our growth factors, which is the process that supports the healing and repairing of skin cells, so our skin starts to behave as it did when we were younger.
How often do I have to have a treatment?
This would depend on the concern being treated. If we are treating acne scars or pigmentation, you can expect to have treatments every 4-6 weeks until the concern is treated. With ageing it’s as little as a treatment every 3-6 months. This treatment can be instead of, or alongside your regular facials. Just ask your therapist what’s best for you and they will advise accordingly.
Does it hurt?
The thought of having fine needles inserted into the skin doesn’t sound too appealing, does it? Not to worry though, we use anesthetic cream on the area beforehand so you’ll barely feel it!
What is the difference between this treatment and my home dermal roller?
There are plenty of differences. Firstly, a home roller is usually designed just for product penetration and never able to cause injury to the skin. Secondly, SkinPen delivers up to 1,600 microchannels per second, which is impossible to do with a handheld roller device. Other differences are the length of the needles, depth precision, long term results and zero cross contamination risks.
Why do I have to have a consultation before a treatment?
Having a consultation is extremely important and plays a key part in your skin journey. During the consultation we will assess your suitability, discuss realistic results, timescales and treatment plans alongside doing an essential patch test and informing you of important pre and post information. The price you pay for the consultation is fully redeemable against any future SkinPen treatments you have within 2 months of your consultation. Once you have had one consultation and continue to have regular treatments, you won’t need a new consultation unless 6 months has lapsed since your last SkinPen treatment with us.
